When you’re about to go on a trip, the most pressing question is :
“Have I forgotten anything?”.
Stéphanie, a volunteer with GlobAlong, shares with us her top 10 things to pack for a successful humanitarian mission :

# 1 – Your travel documents

Your passport or ID (still valid)

A visa if necessary (some visas are delivered directly at the airport, please check)

Your plane tickets (a paper copy as well as a digital copy on your smartphone, to be safe)

An international driver’s licence (you may not need it but it is always better to have it)

A certificate of vaccinations in some countries

A map of the city where you will stay

The address of the accomodation where you will stay

Contact numbers (your local coordinator’s + GlobAlong’s numbers in case of an emergency)

#2 – Your toiletries

Shower gel, shampoo, tooth paste (all  of them organic, if possible), tooth brush etc.
Please only take small bottles in your hand luggage (100 ml).
You can always buy more on your project site (unless you’re travelling to the heart of the desert).

Sunscreen (there’s nothing worse than being sunburnt when starting your trip!)

A razor (you’re going abroad but not on a desert island…)

Ladies, please remember to bring your intimate hygiene products.
It may be difficult to find pads or tampons in some countries.

#3 – A first aid kit

A mosquito repellent

An antiseptic spray (100 ml)

Eye drops

Plasters / Gauze

Biafine cream (for burns)

Pain-killers

Seasickness or motion sickness medication

A pair of small scissors / tweesers

#4 – Your camera

Please remember to bring an SD card with you as well as a battery / charger / extra batteries.

#5 – An adapter

Please remember that chargers may vary in various countries ! It would be an shame for you to bring the wrong type and not be able to charge your phone or camera when needed.

# 6 – A flash light or a head lamp – always useful, I guarantee!

# 7 – Your clothes

Please bring a microfibre towel as they dry very quickly!

# 8 – Your shoes

Hiking shoes (for treks)

Flip flops for the shower (with the distinctive sound they make as you walk, which reminds you of summer time)

Trainers

# 9 – A swiss army knife – also very useful!

# 10 – A compass – you don’t want to end up lost so please bring a compass on top of a map of the area where you will stay) 😊
