Chloé, a Globalong associate, talks about her travel experience in California :

Every fall, whenever temperatures start dropping, I always have a song pop up in my head : California Dreamin’ by The Mamas and the Papas.

An ode to summer gone (« California Dreamin’ on such a winter’s day») which reminds me of my stay in California.

It was June 2002, one of my first big trips. I was a student. I was touring the USA with friends.

We’d been dreaming of visiting California and were so emotional when we landed in San Francisco that we stood in the hall of the airport for a while, having just realized our California Dreamin’ had indeed come true.

We visited the usual tourist spots (the Golden Gate Bridge,

Alcatraz island…) but the real adventure began when we rented a car and drove along the coast down to Big Sur, a Jack Kerouac book in hand.

We went camping for a week in Yosemite National Park, before heading back to San Francisco.

We didn’t have a road map. We were free. Everything was possible.

It’s getting colder in the mornings these days. I’ve been California Dreamin’ again but if I could go back now, I think that this time, I would travel differently. I would like my California Dreamin’ to be more meaningful.

The eco-volunteering program in California offered by GlobAlong would be the best option for me because it would allow me to discover the American West and take part in a project that makes all the difference at the same time!
