As the festive season is upon us, the International Human Solidarity Day – created by the UN and celebrated each year on December 20th – is here to remind us that human solidarity is key to “celebrate our unity in diversity”.

This year, world leaders have adopted Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)an inclusive development programme “to lift people out of poverty, hunger and disease” and to protect our planet.

All around the world, the most vulnerable communities and people usually do not have the means to make their voices heard.

It is our responsibility to support them!

You could express your solidarity and make a difference by:

  • learning about their ways of life, by examining the issues they are facing daily, discussing these issues with friends or on social media to raise awareness
  • making a donation to a charity helping them fulfil their basic needs, get medical treatment, get an education and empower themselves to become self-sufficient
  • acting on the ground as a volunteer and by supporting local or international development projects

Opening ourselves to the world and reaching out to other people, sharing, encouraging international cooperation and solidarity… this is what will help us make changes for the better!

Everyone can have a positive impact on their own as well as other people’s lives!

As Ghandi put it: “Be the change you want to see in the world”.
